Hare Magic "MORE BUNNIES!" Post-Jam v2.0 Update!


It's been 3 weeks since we released Hare Magic for the Godot Wild Jam #29 (Nomad Theme).   As with any jam, we had to cut a ton of content out in order to actually finish in time, but by the deadline we ended up with a pretty interesting game that got a lot of great feedback (Thanks to everyone who played and reviewed!)! Of all of the games we've created over the past year, Hare Magic seemed to be the best received and so we decided to spend a couple more weeks post-jam trying to add back in some of the stuff that couldn't make it into the jam version.

Version 2.0 is now live and includes the following changes below.  The updated game feels distinctly different (and better, we think!) than the jam version, so if you enjoyed v1.0, we think you'll also enjoy this version with "MORE BUNNIES" and if you are new to Hare Magic, we hope you'll give it a try!

Major Features:

  • Add the third magic trick (this was the top request!)
  • Completely re-worked the Fame system (and reward Perfect performances accordingly).
  • Introduce the tricks one at a time (which should make the game progression feel smoother).
  • Add tutorial text that displays while practicing.
  • Rework map interface to be more intuitive and easier to use (better UI and added a 'Back to Carriage' button)
  • Allow skipping shows (click the map to pick a new destination rather than clicking the door to perform).
  • Improved trick clicking and scoring (added extra visual cues and made it more worthwhile to get perfect 'Fantastic' clicks).
  • Added some "magic" to help out with show performance.
  • Encouraged audience members to react better to good, bad, and meh performances.
  • Allowed Castle Guards permission to watch the final show.

Quality of Life Improvements and Minor Features:

  • Castle Guard text interaction is click-based, not time based
  • Improved the post-show messaging to make it clearer what impact the show has on your Fame.
  • Sped up some slow animations. Slowed down some fast animations.
  • Fixed some image importing to crispen up the graphics (makes full-screen mode look prettier).
  • Display current location fame and mood in carriage.
  • Adjusted overall timings for Show/Trick transitions and audience reactions.
  • Made the Finale more exciting!
  • Generally tweaked sfx and added a few new ones.
  • Spruced up the Carriage decor.
  • Added a new village background location and spruce up castle grounds.

Major Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed a nasty bug that would cause false-misses when trying to play slow and steady.
  • Fixed bug that prevented carriage movement between two locations.
  • Properly detect when tricks pass or fail better.
  • Allow travelling past the Castle instead of having to go the long way around.
  • Overall improve stability and performance.
